a bit about lil ol’ me…

I was born in Kuwait to a Palestinian/Lebanese Catholic mother and a “British” father whose parents were of Latvian/German and Russian Jewish descent. Confused some?

My parents, younger sister and I lived in Bahrain until the Gulf War happened. We left everything behind. Not so tragic was the coming birth of my younger twin sisters that same year, in the UK.

Needless to say, we’re not your average family – something I take both pride in and am a bit miffed by at the same time. Imagine six of us in a four bedroom house and then our mother’s mother moving in, not really speaking much English but certainly could smoke the old hubble bubble, play 14 card hand rummy and drink copious amounts of the thick dark coffee the Arabs, Greeks and Turks love, the scent of cardamom seeds so lovely and spicy.

Arabs are loud. Did you know that? If you didn’t, try getting on the short 30 minute flight from Cyprus to Lebanon. Don’t put your headphones on – just sit back, watch, and listen.

You’ll soon wish you had ignored me, stuck your headphones in and put your music on full blast.

Big families are loud too.

You can imagine we were very loud.

And now I live in Luxembourg, some 20 odd years later, a “responsible” (I write this word lightly) woman, with a good job and a roof over my head. Oh yes, not to forget a fucking marvellous network of friends and acquaintances.

Nope, not married, no kids either, nor pets or a partner.

You’re probably wondering what the hell I do with my life, with all that “time”? Well, let’s see as we go along shall we?
